About Saginaw, MI

Saginaw is located in Northeast Michigan and serves as the seat of Saginaw County. Saginaw was once a thriving auto parts manufacturer and lumber town. Saginaw’s roots can be traced back to 1815 when the first English speaking settlers inhabited the area. Saginaw’s lumber heritage is from the days when sawmills were prevalent in the area and workers repaired vessels traveling the Great Lakes.

Now a part of the Tri-cities area, Saginaw is home to around 51,000 as of the last US Census. At one time in the height of American auto manufacturing, Saginaw’s population was near 100,000. The emergence of factories that produced manual transmissions and steering boxes is said to have attracted a large migration from the Southern United States.

Accessable by Interstate 75, Saginaw lies on the Saginaw River, 15 miles inland from the Saginaw Bay, an arm of Lake Huron.
