About Dayton
Dayton, the 6th largest city in Ohio also serves as the county seat of Montgomery County which is the fifth most populous county in the state. The city’s population was 141,527 as of the 2010 Census. The Dayton Metropolitan Area had a population of 841,502 at last count by the 2010 Census making Dayton the fourth largest metro area in Ohio and the 61st largest metro area in the US. Dayton is situated within the Miami Valley region of Ohio, just north of the Cincinnati area.
Dayton is within 500 miles of 60% of the US population which makes it well equipped for logistics and distribution. Over the past century Dayton has been known for its technological innovations in engineering and aerospace which can be traced back to the Wright Brothers who are from the city.
The birthplace of aviation gave way to one of the largest Air Force Bases in the United States, the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Wright-Patt as it is called locally employs thousands of military and civilian personnel that are known for their efforts in aerospace engineering.
Over the last few decades heavy manufacturing activity has subsided and Dayton’s economy has transformed to a high-tech and service economy. Manufacturing and innovation are still a large part of the area but most new jobs are created in healthcare and other services like financial, insurance and construction. Dayton was named as one of the best areas for college graduates to find a job.
