Honolulu, located on the Southern shore of the Island of Oahu, is the capital and largest city in the state of Hawaii. The city and county consolidated and are governed by one central body. The city is home to 390,738 as of the 2010 US Census and the county population is 953,207 residents. Honolulu has been the capital of Hawaii since 1845, before being annexed to the United States in 1898.
In Hawaiian language, Honolulu means “Sheltered Bay” which made it the ideal place to become the center of government and commerce of the region. The economy of the city is more than just tourism. The city is known as the financial center of the Pacific region and also serves as a major trading hub between the East and West. Local residents also work in health care, research, manufacturing, technology, education and government.
