About Newport News

Newport News is an independent city located in Southeastern Virginia. Part of the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Area,  Newport News has a population of 180,719 as of the 2010 US Census making it the 5th most populated city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Once a part of Warwick County, the city of Newport News has a history that dates back to 1634 which is was formed by the House of Burgesses under the order of King Charles in the once British Colony of Virginia.
