About Greensboro
Greensboro is the third largest city in North Carolina with a population of around 269,000. Located at the intersection of I-40 and I-85, Greensboro has made its mark in the transportation and distribution industry. Home to a major Fed-Ex air-cargo hub at the Piedmont Triad International Airport, the city has become known for being one of the largest freight hubs in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
The area is still known for its production of textiles, furniture and tobacco. Textile companies located in the area are Burlington Industries, Galey & Lord, Unifi and VF Corporation which owns brands such as Wrangler, Lee, The North Face and Nautica.
The metro area is now home to around 1,599,000 residents but was once a small village that attracted Northern industrialists looking to build their textile mills. With roots in textiles and transportation, Greensboro has long standing traditions such as the PGA’s Wyndham Golf Tournament. Hosted at the Sedgefield Country Club, the tournament dates back to 1938 when it was known as the Greater Greensboro Open.
